Finding Missing Sides
Use SOH CAH TOA to find a side when you know an angle and one other side.
Choosing the Right Ratio
To find a missing side: label the sides relative to the known angle (Opposite, Adjacent, Hypotenuse), choose whichever ratio connects the side you know to the side you want, then rearrange and solve.
Example 1 — finding the opposite side
A right-angled triangle has an angle of ° and a hypotenuse of . Find the opposite side.
- The known side is the hypotenuse, and we want the opposite side. Use sin: sin(θ) = Opposite ÷ Hypotenuse
