| Directed number | A number together with a plus or minus sign, showing its direction from zero. | Directed Numbers |
| Discriminant | The value ac, which tells you how many real solutions a quadratic equation has. | The Quadratic Formula |
| Elimination method | Adding or subtracting two equations so that one unknown cancels out. | Simultaneous Equations |
| Equation | A statement that two expressions are equal, true for only certain values of the letter. | Linear Equations |
| Expanding | Multiplying every term inside a bracket by the term outside it. | Expanding Brackets |
| Factorising | Writing an expression as a product by taking out the highest common factor of every term. | Factorising Expressions |
| Index (power)Also Exponent, Power | A small raised number showing how many times a base number is multiplied by itself. | Laws of Indices |
| Inequality | A statement comparing two expressions using <, >, ≤, or ≥, usually with many solutions. | Inequalities |

| Linear equation | An equation where the unknown appears only to the power of . | Linear Equations |
| Quadratic equation | An equation that can be written as ax² + bx + c = , where a is not zero. | Quadratic Equations |

| Substitution | Replacing a letter in an expression with a given numerical value, then evaluating the result. | Substitution |
