| Code editor | A program for writing code with helpful features such as colour coding and auto-complete, e.g. VS Code. | Setting Up Your Tools |
| Colour scheme | A small, consistent set of colours used across a website. | Colour Schemes |
| Contrast ratio | A measure of the difference in brightness between text and its background; WCAG asks for at least 4.5 : 1 for normal text. | Colour Schemes |
| Image optimisation | Resizing and compressing images so they load quickly while still looking good. | Choosing and Optimising Images |
| Persona | A short, realistic description of an imaginary typical user, used to keep their needs in mind while designing. | Purpose and Audience |
| Relative path | A path to a file described from the location of the current file, rather than from the top of the website or the internet. | File Names and Relative Paths |
| Serif / sans-serif | Serif fonts have small strokes at the ends of letters; sans-serif fonts do not. | Choosing Fonts |
| Site map | A diagram showing all the pages of a website and how they are linked and organised. | Content and Site Maps |
| Target audience | The specific group of people a website is designed for, described by characteristics such as age, location, language, needs and devices. | Purpose and Audience |
| Web font | A font downloaded with the web page (e.g. from Google Fonts) so visitors see it even if it is not installed. | Choosing Fonts |
| Wireframe | A simple outline drawing of a web page layout that shows where content and interface elements will go, without final colours, images or text. | Wireframes |
