Screenshots paste as pictures — compress large images: select picture → Picture Format → Compress Pictures → Use document resolution for web PDF.
Embed vs link objects
Insert → Object → Create from File embeds a PDF or Excel range inside Word. Link to file updates when the source changes but breaks if you move folders.
