Embedding Video on a Slide

A short tour clip on the Welcome slide helps parents picture the campus before they leave the Main Hall.

James Okonkwo inserts tour-intro.mp4 on slide 2 of NorthgateOpenDay.pptx. Dr. Helen Marsh clicks to play during the live welcome — not auto-play, which can surprise the audience.

Test in Slide Show with hall speakers before Saturday 14 March 2026. Muted autoplay on a lobby loop is different from a clicked clip during the talk.

Video shows the campus route parents will walk after the talk.

• 1Click slide 2 (Welcome) in the slide pane.
• 2Click Insert → Video → This Device.
• 3Choose tour-intro.mp4 (or your school clip) → Insert.
• 4Drag corner handles to resize. Hold Shift to keep proportions.
• 5Expected result: The video appears on the slide with playback controls in Normal view.

On Click lets Dr. Helen Marsh introduce the clip before audio starts.

• 1Click the video on the slide.
• 2Click Playback on the Ribbon.
• 3Set Start to On Click.
• 4Press Shift+F5 from the Welcome slide. Click the video to play.
• 5Expected result: Video plays with sound when clicked; does not auto-start.

Fix: If there is no sound in Slide Show, unmute the PC, check Playback → Volume, and test with headphones first.

Very large videos make NorthgateOpenDay.pptx slow to open on the hall laptop. Export a 720p H.264 .mp4 under 50 MB. File → Info → Compress Media if needed.

Set Playback → Play Full Screen only if the clip is the main focus — otherwise keep it beside welcome bullets.

Insert → Video adds a file. Design changes themes. Transitions animate slide changes. View changes workspace layout — not media insertion.

Example — Main Hall vs lobby playback: On Click suits the live talk — the presenter controls when audio starts. Automatically with low volume suits a lobby loop. This Device is more reliable than streaming on Open Day morning.
