Designing a Report in Design View
A report's Design View is organized into predictable sections — Report Header/Footer, Page Header/Footer, Group Header/Footer, and Detail.
Field Notes: Six Sections, Six Jobs
- Report Header — printed once, at the very beginning of the entire report (often a title page or overall summary). - Page Header — printed at the top of every page (often column headings). - Group Header / Footer — printed at the start and end of each group, if grouping is used. - Detail — printed once for every single record, holding the main field values. - Page Footer — printed at the bottom of every page (often the page number and date). - Report Footer — printed once, at the very end of the entire report (often a grand total).
Controls are added and adjusted here exactly as in Form Design View — drag fields from the Field List, add Label controls for headings, and use the Property Sheet to fine-tune any individual control.
