Volume of a Cylinder

A cylinder's volume is the area of its circular base, multiplied by its height.

Change a value and watch:

Change the radius and height and watch the volume update — it grows with the SQUARE of the radius, but only in direct proportion to the height.

Doubling the radius roughly quadruples the volume; doubling the height only doubles it.

Example 1 — volume of a cylinder

Find the volume of a cylinder with radius 3 and height 5 . Use π \approx 3.14 . 1 Base area: π \times 3^{2} = 3.14 \times 9 = 28.26 2 Multiply by height: 28.26 \times 5 Answer: 141.3

Example 2 — a second cylinder

Find the volume of a cylinder with radius 4 and height 10 . Use π \approx 3.14 . 1 Base area: 3.14 \times 16 = 50.24 2 Multiply by height: 50.24 \times 10 Answer: 502.4
