APA, MLA, Chicago, IEEE, and bibliography workflows.
Manage sources once
The sixth-form appendix cites exam board regulations. References → Manage Sources stores author, title, year — James enters each source once, then inserts citations from that list.
Choose APA or Harvard (confirm with your department). Insert Citation picks a source and adds (Board, 2024) in the body.
Bibliography and updates
Place the cursor where the reading list goes → References → Bibliography → References or Works Cited. Word builds the list from sources you cited.
When a source changes, edit it in Manage Sources, then click the bibliography field and press F9 to update. Uncited sources can stay in the library for next year without appearing in the list.
Hands-on steps
Goal
Cite one exam-board source and generate a bibliography in the sixth-form appendix.
James Okonkwo adds this to NorthgateHandbook.docx as part of one polished student handbook, policy pack, and open-day collateral before families arrive.
Add a source
Where
Do this
You should see
- Source listed in library.
Verification
Check your work
You are correct if all of these are true:
- In-text citation appears beside the policy sentence you referenced.
- Bibliography lists the same source with full publication details.
- Style (APA/Harvard) is consistent between citation and bibliography.
