Slide Master
View → Slide Master. Add the school logo and footer once. Close Master View to edit slides.
Why Edit the Master?
Without Slide Master, James Okonkwo would paste the logo on every slide by hand.
Edit the Slide Master once. Every layout based on that master shows the logo on new and existing slides. The master controls fonts, logos, and footers for many slides at once.
Open Slide Master View
- Click View on the Ribbon.
- Click Slide Master.
- Expected result: Slide Master view opens. The largest thumbnail at the top is the Slide Master. Smaller thumbnails are layout masters.
Insert the School Logo
Every Open Day slide should show the same branding.
- Click the first (largest) master thumbnail at the top of the left pane.
- Click Slide Master tab → Insert → Pictures → This Device and choose the school logo file.
- Drag the logo to the top-right corner. Drag a corner handle to shrink it.
- Click Insert → Text Box and type northgate.leeds.sch.uk near the bottom.
- Click Close Master View on the Slide Master tab.
- Expected result: Normal slides now show the logo and footer.
Fix: If the logo appears on only one layout, select the top Slide Master thumbnail, not a child layout only.
Master vs Normal Editing
In Slide Master view you edit templates. In Normal view you edit slide content — titles, bullets, photos.
Close Master View before editing Open Day slide text. Never delete the master thumbnail; use Close Master View to return.
Return to Normal Editing
After editing the Slide Master, click Slide Master tab → Close Master View. Pressing Esc alone is not always enough on every version.
File → Save As saves changes but does not exit Master view.
Example — Logo on every slide: Edit the top master thumbnail so every layout inherits the logo. Editing only a child layout master puts the logo on one layout type — Title and Content might show it while Title Slide does not.
