Access on Mac and Other Platforms

Microsoft Access is a Windows-only desktop program. There is no native version for macOS, no Access for the web equivalent to Word or Excel's browser versions, and no dedicated Access mobile app — a genuine, structural limitation worth understanding clearly if you work primarily on a Mac.

Practical options for Mac users include running Windows in a virtual machine, using software such as Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion, then installing and running genuine Access exactly as on a Windows PC; using a remote or cloud-hosted Windows session, sometimes provided by a workplace's IT department; or, for simpler needs, considering whether a cross-platform alternative, or Excel itself, might genuinely suffice.

If you only occasionally need to look at data from an Access database on a Mac, without needing the full design environment, exporting relevant tables or queries to Excel format from a Windows computer, then opening that Excel file normally on your Mac, is often the simplest practical workaround.
