Introduction
What this unit covers, the print shop you will follow, and how each lesson works.
Welcome to Computer Systems
Hillside Print House and everyone who works there are made up for this course. Any resemblance to a real business is a coincidence.
You will meet Nuwan again and again. Ishara, the shop's designer, needs a powerful computer for large print files. Ravi in accounts needs a reliable office PC. Their different needs help you practise one of the most important skills in this unit: matching a computer to a job, and explaining why.

How Each Lesson Works
Every lesson is one page. New words appear in bold and are explained in a Term box. You will also see:
- Worked examples — a problem solved step by step.
- Watch this mistake — errors students often make, and what to do instead.
- Tip, Did you know? and Real life boxes — short, useful extras.
- Assignment tip — how to present a skill well in your own assignment. These never give you answers; they show you how to show your work.
- Practice — questions to try on paper, to check your understanding.
At the end of the course there is a short exam and a glossary of every term.
